Footsteps to Transition Fair 2018
The seventh annual Footsteps to Transition Fair 2018, hosted by the Department of Education - Central District, will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Radford High School. This annual event is a free, informational fair designed to provide our youth with special needs (and their families) post-secondary supports and services in education, employment, recreation, and social opportunities offered in their community.
The annual Footsteps to Transition Fair provides students and families with the opportunity to visit exhibits and “talk story” with a variety of state and private organizations. Our event co-sponsors include: The Arc in Hawaii, Best Buddies Hawaii, Community Children’s Council, Department of Education, Department of Health: Children with Special Health Needs Branch, Department of Health: Developmental Disabilities Division, Disability and Communication Access Board, Hawaii State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Hilopa’a Family to Family Health Information Center, Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Special Parent Information Network (SPIN).
This year, we are pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be Leolinda Parlin of Hilopa’a Family to Family Health Information Center. As a recognized leader for her work in curriculum development, Medicaid, and government-financed programs, Ms. Parlin will provide attendees with vital information on navigating through the complex transition process. Additionally, a panel of students/adults with special needs will share their transition experiences and the supports and services that encouraged them to pursue their long term goals.
